Access from off-campus
Remote Access allows off-campus users to access the Library's subscription-based electronic resources as if they were on the Medical Center network. Users may log in from the EZproxy login page, OR just proceed directly to the resource to be used - ALL subscription resources on the Library's website will prompt for the medctr username and password.
Why is that EZproxy, VPN, or Citrix is needed for remote access?
Many of our electronic resources are expensive subscription based services that are restricted to authorized users only. EZproxy and VPN are two ways to assure our publishers that you are a legitimate user when you are off campus.
Who is eligible for remote access?
Remote access is open to the following groups:
- WFSM Medical, Physician Assistant and Graduate Students
- WFSM Faculty and Staff
- WFBH Hospital Staff
- WFSM Nurse Anesthesia, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Medical Ultrasound programs
- Virginia Tech Biomedical Engineering Graduate Students and Faculty
- Forsyth Tech ADN/LPN, Respiratory Therapy programs
- WSSU students-Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Nursing students only
- WFU Faculty, Students, and Staff
Are you a WFU or WFSM alum?
Alumni are not permitted to access electronic resources off campus. This is a condition set by our vendors in license agreements when we buy databases and journals from them. In most cases, alumni and the public are welcome to use these resources when they are in the library facility.
How do I login to resources remotely?
In order to access the library's resources remotely, you must have a MEDCTR login account or a remote access affiliate account. During each browser session, you are prompted for your ID & password on the first attempt to visit one of the resource sites. Each time a resource site is visited, you are routed through the proxy server to appear as though you are on the WFBMC network.
Individuals without a MEDCTR account should complete this form.
What resources are available remotely?
Wireless network access is available throughout the library. Wired ports with access to the academic network are in all the library study carrels, group study rooms, quiet study rooms, and classrooms.
