Pediatric Advanced Life Support

The Pediatric Advanced Life Support Course is designed for healthcare providers who direct or participate in the resuscitation of pediatric patients in either the pre-hospital or hospital setting. In this course, participants will enhance their skills in the treatment of pediatric emergencies through active participation in a series of simulated cardiac, respiratory, and shock cases designed to reinforce important concepts in pediatric recuscitation.

Prerequisites for all PALS Classes

1. Participants must have a working knowledge in rhythm interpretation and cardiovascular pharmacology
2. Participants must have a current AHA BLS provider card (if class taken outside WFBMC fax a copy of the card to 336-716-5927 with note stating which class you registered for)
3. Participants must have a current PALS Provider Manual 
4. It is required that participants complete the pretest at heart.org/eccstudent (code: palsprovider).

PALS PROVIDER

This two-day course is designed for participants who have never taken PALS or for providers who don’t practice the concepts frequently.

Credits

The Wake Forest School of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 11 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

North Carolina Baptist Hospital Nursing Education and Research is an Approved Provider of continuing nursing education by the North Carolina Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. Participation in this class provides 10.6 CEUs.

Fees: $250 (MD, PA) $150 (RN, EMT-P, etc.)
NCBH Employees: No Charge

PALS Provider Times: 8am - 5pm both days

PALS & BLS COMBINED REFRESHER

This one day course is designed to allow participants to get both BLS and PALS in a one day format. Participants must have previously completed PALS within the last five years (if previous PALS class taken outside Life Support Education, fax a copy of the card to 336-716-5927).

Credits

The Wake Forest School of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

PALS E-LEARNING

This online-based learning program provides an alternative to traditional classroom instruction. This course uses a simplified, user-friendly design & microsimulation technology to present realistic scenarios from the PALS core courses.

Credits: HeartCode™ PALS is approved by the AACN, ACCME, ACPE & CECBEMS for CME/CEH/CE credits.

E-Learning Steps

1. Part one - The student will access and complete the didactic portion of the PALS course on-line at onlineaha.org.
2. You must print the official American Heart Association certificate of completion and bring it with you to be eligible for skills testing.
3. Part two - The student will schedule the PALS skills testing in Life Support Education. The skills testing must be completed within 60 days after completion of the online didactic portion.

**Beware of Scams! ** There are several websites that offer "online PALS" courses. However, the American Heart Association DOES NOT recognize any e-learning PALS courses except for HeartCode™ PALS. Please contact us before purchasing any online PALS or BLS product.

WFHS and Outside Student Fees:
$170 - for online access code and skills check off
$50 - skills check-off only (for those who have already completed HeartCode PALS Part 1)

NCBH Employees:
$110  - for online access code and skills check off
No Charge - skills check-off only (for those who have already completed HeartCode PALS Part 1)

PALS INSTRUCTOR

 

This course is designed for the PALS Provider that has demonstrated excellence in PALS concepts and wishes to achieve instructor status.

Additional Prerequisites:

1. Completed Instructor Candidate Application indicating your instructor commitment, your acceptance by an AHA Training Center, and your verification of Instructor Potential. This form can be found under the "forms" tab on our website.You will need to contact your most recent PALS instructor to verify your instructor potential, and you must contact the training center that you would like to join and have them sign TC Alignment section. Your form will not be accepted until ALL four sections have been filled out completely.
2. Current AHA BLS Healthcare Provider and PALS Provider cards
3. Participants must obtain a copy of a current PALS Provider Manual (available in bookstore)
4. Completion of the AHA online Core Instructor Course (will be sent with your packet after all forms and payment has been received)
5. Must obtain a score of 90% or better on a valid AHA PALS exam on the day of the instructor course.
