About the Department of Neurology
Message from the Chair
Welcome to the Department of Neurology at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center (WFBMC). In 2010 the WFBMC Neurology and Neurosurgery program was ranked in the top 50 programs by US News and World Report. Our primary emphasis is excellence in patient care within the context of a teaching experience. We also perform extensive clinical research in stroke, movement disorders, epilepsy and spasticity. The faculty in the Department of Neurology are funded by the NIH to study the genetics of dystonia, stroke and neuromuscular disease.
The department includes 32 faculty representing all areas of neurologic expertise, including rehabilitation and neuropsychology. Each of our physician faculty is a skilled clinician, and all faculty see patients in an outpatient and inpatient setting. The neurology residency training program emphasizes the practice of clinical neurology both for outpatients, inpatients, and those with critical neurologic problems. The Department of Neurology graduate 4 adult resident and one pediatric neurology resident each year.
Whether you are a patient or trainee, we welcome you to the Department of Neurology website.
