Thank you for your interest in the Neurology Residency Program at Wake Forest School of Medicine. We offer an accredited program steeped in educational excellence and exposure to all aspects of neurologic care and research. The neurology program utilizes the expertise of personnel from Wake Forest School of Medicine and North Carolina Baptist Hospital.
We offer 5/4/5/4 neurology residency positions per year. The residency is a four year categorical program that includes a PGY-1 year in internal medicine. We strongly encourage applicants to pursue their first year of training at Wake Forest. A separate interview with the Department of Medicine is not required.
We accept applications from the ERAS application service only. Information is on their website http://www.aamc.org/audienceeras.htm . Each application must contain three letters of recommendation in addition to the Medical Student Performance Evaluation (the Dean’s Letter) which will become available from your school through the ERAS system on November 1. The minimum USMLE score to be considered for an interview is generally a 195. Based upon the strength of the overall application, some candidates with lower USMLE scores may be considered as well. International medical graduates must hold a J-1 visa or have resident alien status and they must have a valid ECFMG certificate. In addition, international medical graduates must have some amount of clinical medical experience in the United States or Canada, preferably of at least a year, to be considered for an interview. Not all applicants are invited for an interview, but the most competitive candidates will be invited for a formal interview. Applications will be reviewed as they become available in the ERAS system and candidates will be invited in the order they are received and reviewed. Since the Dean’s Letter is not available until November 1, it is not used to determine eligibility for interview.
Applicants are encouraged to complete their application as soon as possible since earlier invitations to interview will allow for greater flexibility in scheduling.
Thank you again for your interest in our program. If you have any specific questions not covered above, please feel free to contact Diann Holland, Residency Program Coordinator or email@example.com.
