When it comes to strokes, time is always of the essence. The faster you get treatment for a stroke, the better chances you have for recovery.
Getting fast treatment often depends on knowing stroke warning signs and symptoms. Recognizing the signs of a stroke and acting quickly can literally save your life. After a stroke, it is also critical to learn how to regain an independent and enjoyable quality of life, and how to manage post-stroke conditions.
Knowing Stroke Signs and Symptoms
At Wake Forest Baptist Health, we offer all of our patients a comprehensive stroke education binder with information about all aspects of stroke and stroke recovery. We work with patients and families to make sure everyone understands key issues, including:
- What stroke warning signs to look for
- What to do in the event of a stroke
- How to help regain someone who has experienced a stroke regain as much independence as possible
Before you leave Wake Forest Baptist, we offer individualized coaching to help prepare you for the transition from hospital to home. We also screen you for any risks that could lead to complications or re-hospitalizations.
Stroke Follow-Up Care
Even after you leave Wake Forest Baptist, our team continues to stay in contact with you. A nurse practitioner will follow-up with you regularly to make sure you are not developing any new problems, which may hinder your recovery.
We give you every opportunity to ask more questions and get the information you need to stay healthy and stroke-free.
