WFU Baptist Medical Center to hold Cystic Fibrosis Family Day

Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center will host the second annual Cystic Fibrosis Family Day for cystic fibrosis patients and their families on Saturday, April 17 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., in the conference rooms on the main floor of Ardmore Tower.

Health care professionals, educators and others involved in the care of individuals with cystic fibrosis are invited to attend.

The educational day will include sessions on current research and new therapies for the treatment of cystic fibrosis, what''s new at the Cystic Fibrosis Clinic at Brenner Children''s Hospital and breakout sessions discussing nutrition, airway clearance, financing health care and miscellaneous medical concerns.

Families will also have a chance to meet other families who live with cystic fibrosis.

"One of the main goals of the day is to educate families about new developments in cystic fibrosis treatment and provide them with a network of families dealing with the same issues," said Michael S. Schechter, M.D., M.P.H., director of the Cystic Fibrosis Clinic at Brenner Children''s Hospital.

In addition to the educational sessions, long-term cystic fibrosis survivor Cyndi Baker-Nall will share her inspirational outlook to the future in her session titled, "Living with Cystic Fibrosis and Loving Life." Baker-Nall is the national spokesperson for American Biosystems.

The program is free and open to the public. Lunch is provided. For more information or to preregister, call Sandy Brim at (336) 716-5133.
