Free Event to Answer Questions About Hormone Therapy

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Physicians and researchers from Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center will answer questions about hormone therapy at a public meeting from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 29 at the Benton Convention Center in downtown Winston-Salem.The forum will highlight new information from the Women’s Health Initiative Memory Study (WHIMS), a sub-study of the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) focused specifically on the effects of hormone therapy on memory and dementia.

The panel will include experts in cancer, cardiology, memory and women’s health.

Attendees will receive a free, comprehensive information packet, including a unique folder called “What to Ask Your Doctor.”

Wake Forest Baptist is one of two centers in the state conducting the Women’s Health Initiative, a large research study to learn more about women’s health. Recently, WHI investigators reported that the risks of taking estrogen alone outweighed the benefits in postmenopausal women without a uterus. A similar conclusion was reached 2 years ago regarding the effects of estrogen plus progestin on postmenopausal women with a uterus in the WHI study.

For more information about the event, call 336-713-4220. Free parking is available in the public parking deck located at Cherry, 6th and Trade Streets, adjoining the Convention Center. Parking tickets will be validated at the event.
