Heart Center Sponsors Heart Health Fair at Virginia International Raceway

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Heart Center at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center will sponsor a Heart Health Fair at the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series Sunday, Oct. 3 from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Virginia International Raceway (VIR) near Danville, Va.

Spectators and race participants will be able to receive:
• Free cholesterol and blood pressure screening.
• Heart health educational material about cholesterol, blood pressure and diet.
• Educational materials and demonstrations of public access defibrillators.
• Heart healthy snacks and food items offered through VIR concessions.

Raffle tickets are on sale to raise money for the American Heart Association (AHA). For information about how to purchase raffle tickets to benefit the AHA, call (336) 713-8332.

The Heart Health Fair is directed by Wake Forest Baptist cardiologist David M. Herrington, M.D., M.H.S., whose hobby is racing, will take part in an amateur auto race to be held as part of the Oct. 1-3 race weekend. Herrington’s son, Daniel, 18, will race as a professional driver in the Grand Am Cup race to be held on Saturday, Oct. 2.

The raceway is located in the hills of southern Virginia approximately 15 minutes from Danville. Each year the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series draws approximately 6,000 spectators. For more information about the race, call (336) 713-8332.
