Downtown Health Plaza of Baptist Hospital Holds Annual Free Prostate Cancer Screening

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Downtown Health Plaza of Baptist Hospital will hold its annual free prostate cancer screening Thursday, Sept. 22, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Screenings will be performed by appointment only.

"According to the American Cancer Society, prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men,” said M. Craig Hall, M.D., professor of urology at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. “The early detection of prostate cancer is important and allows the detection of prostate cancer in most men at an early stage when cure is still possible."

Who should attend?
• Men age 40 and over who are at high risk, have a family history of prostate cancer, and/or are African-American.
• Men age 50 and older who haven’t had a prostate cancer exam in the last year.

The screening consists of a digital rectal exam and a prostate specific antigen (PSA) blood test. A man’s PSA level may indicate a problem with his prostate gland.

The Downtown Health Plaza is located at 1200 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. To schedule an appointment, call (336) 716-2255.
