Martin Elected to Serve on the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – David F. Martin, M.D., of Lewisville, has been elected as a director of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. The board consists of 18 directors who each serve a 10-year term. Martin is the only board member from North Carolina.

Martin, a professor of orthopaedic surgery at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, earned his medical degree from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and completed his residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. He completed two fellowships in sports medicine and is board certified in orthopaedic surgery.

Martin specializes in adult and adolescent sports medicine, arthroscopic surgery, and adult reconstructive surgery (total hip replacement, total knee replacement and total shoulder replacement). He serves as the director of sports medicine and head team physician at Wake Forest University.

The American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery was founded in 1934 to protect and serve the public as well as the medical profession by setting educational standards and testing physicians who seek to be board certified in orthopaedic surgery.

Directors of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery are chosen from slates nominated by the American Orthopaedic Association, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Medical Association.
