50th Anniversary of Davis Memorial Chapel to be Celebrated
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – A celebration of the 50th anniversary of Davis Memorial Chapel at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 26, in the chapel. The celebration will also include the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Medical Center’s Division of Pastoral Care, one of the first chaplaincy training programs in the nation.
Davis Memorial Chapel was given by Egbert L. Davis Jr. and family in honor of his father and in memory of his mother, Annie Pearl Shore Davis. The elder Davis was the first chairman of the North Carolina Baptist Hospital board of directors, and Mrs. Davis was the first president of the hospital auxiliary.
“Davis Memorial Chapel has served us well over the past 50 years, as a place for patients, families, staff and students to go for quiet reflection or prayer,” said the Rev. Sharon Engebretson, director of chaplaincy and pastoral education. “It has also been a place of grieving as well as celebration. For providing this special sanctuary the Medical Center owes the Davis family a huge debt of gratitude.”
The celebration will begin at 11 a.m. in the chapel, located on Hawthorne Road on the east side of the Medical Center. Parking will be provided in the employee parking deck directly across the street.
