Seminar Offers Support to Patients and Caregivers Coping with Lung Cancer
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – More than 5,000 people living in North Carolina and approximately 213,380 people in the United States will be diagnosed with lung cancer this year. Today, patients and their families have more choices about how to manage and treat lung cancer, but coping with the diagnosis and making decisions can be overwhelming.
The Comprehensive Cancer Center at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center will present “Together, Facing Lung Cancer” on November 12 from 11:30-1:00pm at the Comprehensive Cancer Center, first floor room 1A . Lung cancer patients, family members and friends are invited to attend this free program.
Featured speakers include Richard McQuellen, Ph.D., of the Cancer Patient Support Program and Will Voelzke, M.D., Hematology and Oncology Fellow. They will discuss ways of dealing with the emotional and medical challenges of lung cancer and the importance of building a support network of friends, caregivers, healthcare professionals and counselors to help manage care and make treatment decisions.
“It is so important for patients to create a strong personal network of support to help them make decisions about care and treatment,” said McQuellon. “We want to ensure patients are aware of all the treatments available to them and have the information and support they need to make an educated decision.”
Reservations are not necessary but a call to 713-6953 to R.S.V.P. would be appreciated.
