Wake Forest Medical Training Programs Nationally Ranked

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest University School of Medicine ranks 18th in primary care and 44th in research among the nation's 145 medical and osteopathic schools in the 2008 edition of the book “America’s Best Graduate Schools” from U.S. News & World Report.

The magazine also ranks training programs in other health disciplines. Wake Forest’s joint program with the University of North Carolina at Greensboro to train nurse anesthetists is ranked 11th.

In primary care, Wake Forest tied with Dartmouth Medical School, Michigan State University, the University of California at Los Angeles, the University of Iowa, the University of Missouri at Columbia, the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Southwestern Medical Center and Yeshiva University.

In research, Wake Forest tied with Georgetown University and Indiana University at Indianapolis. The nurse anesthetist program tied with Baylor College of Medicine, Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Oakland University and the University of Cincinnati.

The annual report on best graduate schools began in 1990 and includes programs in business, education, engineering, law and medicine. The rankings are based on opinions from experts about program quality as well as statistical indicators that measure the quality of a school’s faculty, research and students.

Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center is an academic health system comprised of North Carolina Baptist Hospital and Wake Forest University Health Sciences, which operates the university’s School of Medicine. U.S. News & World Report ranks Wake Forest University School of Medicine 18th in family medicine, 20th in geriatrics, 25th in primary care and 41st in research among the nation's medical schools. It ranks 32nd in research funding by the National Institutes of Health. Almost 150 members of the medical school faculty are listed in Best Doctors in America.
