Mental Health Fair Tuesday at Wake Forest Baptist

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – In an effort to educate health professionals and the general public, a mental health fair will be held Tuesday, May 13 in Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center’s Ardmore Cafeteria.
The event, “Mental Health Anti-Stigma Event – “No Health Without Mental Health,” will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Behavioral Health Nursing Leadership Team of Wake Forest Baptist initiated the event in collaboration with the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine and other community groups. This is the fourth year.
Participating partners from the community will provide information. They include Carolina Behavioral Health Alliance, Coalition for Drug Abuse Prevention, and Mental Health Association. Also representing Wake Forest Baptist are the Employee Assistance Program, the Maya Angelou Research Center on Minority Health, Recreation and Massage Therapy program, and CareNet Counseling.
There will be speakers throughout the day. The schedule is as follows: 9:15 a.m., Joseph Williams, M.D., - schizophrenia and psychotic disorders; 10 a.m., Melodie Parsons, M.S.W, L.C.S.W., - community services; 10:30 a.m. Jay Hale, L.P.C, C.E.A.P – signs of depression; 11 a.m., Kim Hutchinson, EdD., - alcohol, tobacco and drugs; 11:30 a.m., Donald Peters, M.D., - panic disorder; noon, Kim Hutchinson, EdD., - parental bonding; 12:15 p.m., Charles Suttenfield, PhD., - depression; 1 p.m., Karen Byrd, G.N.P, - mental illness in elders; 1:30 p.m., Melissa Smith - geriatric outreach; 2 p.m., Dixie Sanspree, M.S.W, L.C.S.W., - mental health providers; 2:30 p.m. Colleen McClanahan, M.S.W., suicide facts/statistics; and 3:15 p.m., massage therapist Rick Jones – chair massages.
