New Faculty Member Joins Section on Nephrology

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Amret T. Hawfield, M.D., has joined the faculty at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center as an instructor in internal medicine-nephrology.
Hawfield’s clinical interests include general hypertension, hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, and kidney disorders related to pregnancy. Her research focuses on these areas and also on preeclampsia, a condition that occurs during pregnancy and can affect both the mother and baby.
Hawfield is board certified in internal medicine. She earned her medical degree at Wake Forest University School of Medicine and completed a residency and fellowship at New York Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell Medical Center. While a medical student, she received the M. Robert Cooper Scholarship awarded for research.
During her residency, she received the Dr. Daniel M. Libby program director’s award for performance and dedication and during her fellowship, she received the Distinguished House Staff Award 2006.
