Wake Forest Baptist Occupational Therapist Receives National Award
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Dana Y. Nakamura, an acute care, burn and trauma occupational therapist at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, has been awarded the 2008 Barbara Knothe Burn Therapist Achievement Award from the American Burn Association.
This award was established in 2001 and commemorates the spirit and commitment of Barbara Knothe, an occupational therapist, who was also a clinical instructor, mentor, teacher and clinician for over 20 years. The award is dedicated in her memory to active burn therapists who embody the same drive and commitment.
Nakamura accepted the award at the 40th Annual Occupational and Physical Therapy Special Interest Group meeting of the American Burn Association on April 29.
Nakamura received her bachelor’s of science degree in occupational therapy and psychology, with honors in psychology from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Wash. She is also a certified lebed method instructor, certified lymphedema therapist and lomi lomi practioner.
