Wake Forest Baptist Volunteers Celebrate 40 Years of Service

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Volunteer Office at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center is celebrating 40 years of service with more than 3.6 million hours served by volunteers since 1968.
Volunteers at the Medical Center work in more than 75 different service areas and donate more than 160,000 hours of service annually. The number of hours served by volunteers has increased since 1968 by 735 percent, going from 19,190 to 160,314.
Ten volunteers who started working at the Medical Center in the 1970s are still volunteering today. Louise Joyce has contributed more than 20,842 hours since 1977.
“I love to contribute to the community and be around people,” said Joyce. “I find no matter what I do or how hard I try, I always get more than I give.”
To celebrate the 40th anniversary and National Volunteer Week (April 27 – May 3), the Volunteer Office will be honoring its volunteers at an annual luncheon on May 1 at 11:45 a.m. at the Bridger Field House in Winston-Salem.
John C. Blumberg, national speaker, consultant and author of the book “Silent Alarm”, will be the guest speaker.
