Hypertension and Vascular Research Center (HVRC)

 The Hypertension & Vascular Research Center was established in 1992 under the direction of Drs. Carlos Ferrario and Richard Dean within the Division of Surgical Sciences to integrate basic science and clinical efforts for advancements leading to the prevention and treatment of high blood pressure and vascular disease.   In 2007, The Hypertension and Vascular Research Center achieved institutional center status.

Wake Forest Baptist Hypertension Specialist Delivers Lecture in Japan

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Carlos M. Ferrario, M.D., a hypertension specialist at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, lectured on new endocrine mechanisms and the renin-angiotensin system at the International Congress of Endocrinology in Kyoto, Japan on March 28 and 29. Following the lecture, Ferrario attended a ceremony with the Emperor and Empress of Japan.

Ferrario is the Dewitt Cordell Professor of Surgical Sciences and a professor of physiology and pharmacology at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, where he also established the Hypertension and Vascular Research Center. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Mariano Moreno College in Buenos Aires and his medical degree from University of Buenos Aires Medical School.
