Wake Forest Baptist's Cancer Program Receives National Accreditation
WINSTON-SALEM – The Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center's NCI-designated comprehensive cancer program recently received a three year accreditation with commendation award from the Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons (ACoS).
A facility receives this award following an on-site evaluation by a physician surveyor, where the facility must demonstrate compliance with one or more standards representing the full scope of the cancer program. A compliance rating for all other standards will also be established.
The survey process evaluated institutional and programmatic resources, cancer committee leadership, cancer data management and cancer registry operations, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education and staff support, and quality improvement.
By undertaking this evaluation, Wake Forest Baptist demonstrates its commitment to quality care, ongoing improvement and public accountability for the care and services it provides. The comprehensive cancer program offers the entire spectrum of cancer control activities from prevention to rehabilitation and long term follow-up.
