Star Lighting Service to be Held Thursday, December 1
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Nov. 29, 2011 – Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center’s annual Christmas star lighting and worship service will be held at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 1.
The service, which is free and open to the public, will be held on the top level of Wake Forest Baptist’s Eden Terrace parking deck off Hawthorne Road.
The event will feature the lighting of the Moravian star atop the hospital’s North Tower and music by the Medical Center Chorale, a Moravian band and a children’s choir. The Rev. Sharon Engebretson, interim vice president, faith and health ministries, at Wake Forest Baptist, will be the worship leader.
Hot apple cider and other refreshments will be served.
Since 1992, Wake Forest Baptist has shared its holiday spirit with the Winston-Salem community through the 31-foot Moravian star.
The star is anchored to the roof of the North Tower. It weighs 3,400 pounds and is constructed of 26 aluminum points attached to an octagonal-shaped center core. The eight- and 11-foot-long points are covered with vinyl-coated nylon mesh. A 150-watt floodlight illuminates each point.
