Mental Health Day: Family Awareness and Wellness Event at BestHealth
May is National Mental Health Month and May 3 is National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day. The following events are sponsored by the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center Behavioral Health Nursing Leadership team.
Mental Health Day Welcome
10 a.m. Join us for opening remarks about how people with mental illness enrich our lives and the significant contributions they’ve made to society.
Meet & Greet: Behavioral Health Care Environments
10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Chat with members of the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center adult and pediatric behavioral health team about how nurses help patients and families understand and cope with the stress of mental health hospitalization and illness. Learn also about mental health services offered through the VA with staff from the VA rural health program. No registration required.

10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Have a free, confidential and professional screening to find out if you suffer from anxiety and/or depression. Provided by the Mental Health Association of Forsyth County. Appointment recommended, but walk-ins are welcome.
ADHD
10:30 a.m. Learn from Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center psychiatrist and inpatient medical director for pediatric behavioral health Guy Palmes, M.D., the latest information related to attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
Everyday Stress
12 p.m. Learn how to tackle everyday stress from Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center clinical psychologist Stephen Rapp, Ph.D.
Integrative Therapies for Mental Health
1:30 p.m. Join Suzanne Melcher Thompson, Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center licensed massage and recreation therapist and Healing Touch practitioner apprentice, to learn more about integrative and alternative therapies for mental health.

Aquatic Therapy
4 p.m. Aquatic therapy is physical therapy performed in the water. Join Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center physical therapist assistant Pamela Wilson to learn more about using water resistance as a rehabilitation option for people with an injury or chronic illness or for those needing less weight on the joints.

Free Stroke Risk Screenings at BestHealth

4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Learn your risk for stroke with a simple finger stick and brief risk assessment. Get blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose results in only five minutes! To qualify for this screening, you must be between the ages of 40 and 65, have had no prior stroke-related disorder, and have not participated in a past stroke screening offered by BestHealth.
