Wake Forest Baptist Begins Construction of Medical Buildings in Clemmons

CLEMMONS, NC—March 16, 2011--Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center today began construction of two medical office buildings in Clemmons to expand healthcare services to western Forsyth County.

The two three-story buildings will contain a total of 90,000 square feet on a 10-acre site located at Lewisville-Clemmons and Peacehaven Roads. The estimated cost of the project is $30.7 million. The new facilities are projected to open in early 2012.

Both primary care and specialty physicians from Wake Forest Baptist will have offices in the buildings. Plans call for a variety of adult and pediatric services including a Women’s Health Center, specialists in internal medicine, pediatrics, orthopedics, hematology and oncology and otolaryngology. An urgent care center will also be housed in one of the buildings. Support services include imaging, full service pharmacy and laboratory.

“The services we will offer will meet the need in the community for a comprehensive healthcare center for the entire family,” said John McConnell, MD, CEO of Wake Forest Baptist. “The location of these physician offices will increase convenience for our patients in the area,” said McConnell.  “They will have a shorter drive and can park easily and quickly at no cost,” he added.

Wake Forest Baptist expects to create 60 new jobs in the buildings.

Summit Healthcare Group of Winston-Salem is developing the buildings for Wake Forest Baptist.  “We have worked with Summit to develop a well thought-out design plan that respects the adjacent property owners and the environment,” said McConnell.  “The plan minimizes the impact on traffic.”

Stimmel Associates of Winston-Salem is the landscape architect and engineer for the project.  The architect is Tabor Architecture in Charlotte.  The contractor is BE&K, a national firm with an office in Charlotte.
