Wake Forest Baptist February Awards, Recognitions and Announcements
Greven Selected as an American Society for Radiation Oncology Fellow
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – February 10, 2011 –Kathryn M. Greven, M.D., professor of radiation oncology at the Comprehensive Cancer Center at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, has been selected as a fellow for the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO).
The society is a prestigious cancer organization with more than 10,000 members who specialize in treating patients with radiation therapy and who dedicate their time to the advancement of radiation oncology by promoting excellence in patient care, research and education.
“ASTRO fellows are some of the most revered and accomplished members of the radiation oncology community and receiving this distinction is a great honor,” said Anthony Zietman, M.D., ASTRO president and radiation oncologist.
Nominations for this award were reviewed by the nine-member Fellows selection committee and recommended to the ASTRO Board of Directors.
Faculty Member Joins Editorial Board of the Journal of Childhood Obesity
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – February 10, 2011 – Bettina Beech, Ph.D., professor of social sciences and health policy at Wake Forest School of Medicine, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, has joined the editorial board of the journal of Childhood Obesity.
Beech, who is also the program director of the Maya Angelou Center for Health Equity, will be accompanied by prestigious professors and researchers, as well as the new journal editor David Katz, M.D., M.P.H., and co-founder and director of the Yale University Prevention Research Center. Beech received her Ph.D. from the University of Texas School of Public Health.
Wake Forest Baptist Receives the Spirit of North Carolina Campaigning for Excellence Award
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – February 10, 2011 –Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center is this year’s recipient of the Spirit of North Carolina Campaigning for Excellence Award.
Sponsored each year by United Way, the Spirit of North Carolina Awards program provides statewide recognition for exceptional commitment and support to local communities through their involvement with United Way. The competitive awards are presented annually to honor corporate and not for profit organizations that demonstrate excellence in their campaigns.
