Professor Honored by State Alliance
N.C. – Nov. 14, 2014 – Elizabeth Arnold, Ph.D., associate
professor of psychiatry and behavioral medicine at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, has received the
Steve Jordan Award from the North Carolina affiliate of the National Alliance
on Mental Illness (NAMI NC).
Arnold is recognized for being an innovator
and advocate for the development of services for people living with mental
illness and their families. She was nominated for her development of the Homeless
Opportunities and Treatment Project which offers clients access
to no-cost mental health services at Samaritan Ministries, a homeless shelter
and soup kitchen in Forsyth County. The project is
funded by Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust.

Director Selected for Leadership Forum
N.C. – Nov. 14, 2014 – Aarti Sarwal, M.D., medical director of
the neurocritical care unit at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, has been accepted
into the American Academy of Neurology (AAN)’s Palatucci Advocacy Leadership
Sarwal was selected
for her passion for improving patient care, willingness to advocate for her
patients and leadership potential. Her goal is to improve clinical providers’
communication with families whose loved one has suffered from a sudden
debilitating neurological injury.
AAN is an
international association of neurologists and neuroscience professionals dedicated
to promoting quality patient-centered neurologic care and enhancing member

Faculty Member Honored by State Society
N.C. – Nov. 14, 2014 – Robert Ford, M.D., volunteer
faculty member of pediatrics at Wake Forest Baptist
has received the David T. Tayloe Award
for Outstanding Community Service by the North Carolina Pediatric Society
The award is given annually to a pediatrician who
has made an exceptional contribution to his/her local
community or state. Ford has served and continues to serve on the board of
directors and committees of numerous organizations including Goodwill
Industries of Northwest North Carolina and Horizons Residential Care Center.
NCPeds is the state affiliate
chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics. It aims to empower pediatricians
to foster the physical, social and emotional well-being of
infants, children, adolescents and young adults.
Three Wake Forest
Baptist Faculty and Staff Members Named Top Young Professionals
N.C. – Nov. 14, 2014 – Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center’s James Long, M.D., assistant professor of
hospital medicine, Meggan Goodpasture, M.D., assistant
professor of pediatrics, and Charlie Shaw, Ph.D., commercialization associate,
have received the Winston Under 40 Leadership Award from the Winston-Salem
Chamber of Commerce.
The inaugural class of recipients is made up of 20 professionals under
40 years of age who excel in their respective fields and actively influence the growth, prosperity and quality of life
in Winston-Salem and Forsyth County.
The Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce is an organization representing businesses that are committed to increased economic development
in the region.
Wake Forest Baptist Receives Echocardiography
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. –
Nov. 14, 2014 – The adult echocardiography
laboratories at Wake Forest Baptist
Medical Center, Wake Forest Baptist Health – Davie Medical Center
and Wake Forest Baptist Health Medical Plaza – Country Club have been granted three-year terms of accreditation in echocardiography
by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC).
accreditation to facilities that provide quality patient care in compliance
with national standards after they have undergone thorough reviews of
their operational and technical components by a panel of experts.
IAC is dedicated to improving health
care through accreditation.

Building Recognized for Construction and Design
N.C. – Nov. 14, 2014 – Wake Forest Baptist
Medical Center’s Comprehensive Cancer Center has been recognized by by Engineering News-Record (ENR) Southeast as one of the best construction and design achievements of the past year in the
southeast region of the U.S.
Submitted by Lend Lease Construction, the
Comprehensive Cancer Center Expansion Project was one of five projects to
receive a merit award in the health care category.
Southeast covers heavy, highway, building and industrial construction news in
Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina.
