Campaign Surpasses $222 Million Mark with Significant Support for Bowman Gray Center for Medical Education

Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center’s comprehensive campaign has surpassed $222 million following significant gifts from BB&T Corp. and a donor who wishes to remain anonymous to support construction of the Bowman Gray Center for Medical Education in downtown Winston-Salem.

The anonymous gift totals $3.5 million. The BB&T gift amount was not disclosed. To date, more than $7.3 million has been raised for the Bowman Gray Center for Medical Education. Located in Wake Forest Innovation Quarter, the center will open in summer 2016 and will house Wake Forest School of Medicine’s M.D. program.

“As part of our mission, BB&T strives to make the communities in which we work better places to live, and we are proud to support Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center,” said BB&T Triad Regional President Cantey Alexander. “We are delighted this campaign has reached a significant fundraising milestone and are confident they will reach their goal.”

“We are deeply grateful for these significant commitments to this transformative project and to our greater academic mission,” said Norman D. Potter, Wake Forest Baptist’s vice president of development and alumni affairs. “It is immensely gratifying to see donors and prominent members of our corporate community embrace that mission and give in support of it.”

Wake Forest Baptist is raising $350 million as part of a comprehensive campaign to further its mission in patient care, education and research. Areas of focus for the campaign include cancer, aging and Alzheimer’s disease, children’s health, diabetes and obesity, heart and vascular, regenerative medicine and medical education.

The effort is part of Wake Will, the campaign for Wake Forest University, which has a goal of raising a combined $1 billion for the University and the Medical Center.
