Wake Forest Baptist Makes Becker’s List of Great Hospitals in America

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – May 19, 2016 – Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center has been named by Becker's Hospital Review as one of the "100 Great Hospitals in America."

U.S. News & World Report ranked Wake Forest Baptist in the top 50 in the nation in seven specialties for 2015-16, including: cancer, nephrology, urology, ear, nose and throat, gastroenterology, pulmonology and neurology and neurosurgery.

Wake Forest Baptist, the region's sole Level I trauma center and the first Level I pediatric trauma center in the state, was honored for its history of medical innovation, providing top care to patients and leading clinical advancements and research.

The Becker's Hospital Review editorial team selected hospitals for this list based on rankings and awards from U.S. News & World Report, Truven Health Analytics, Healthgrades, the American Nurses Credentialing Center and The Leapfrog Group.

Wake Forest Baptist IT Services Honored for Advancements

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – May 19, 2016 – Information Technology and Services (ITS) at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center has been awarded the Transformation Catalyst Award at the EMC World conference.

The award recognizes Wake Forest Baptist’s ITS department as a leader in modern data centers with an infrastructure that enhances patient care and advances medical research.

The EMC World conference is a technology forum to help IT practitioners and business decision makers modernize, automate and transform their services.

Wake Forest Baptist Program Awarded for Compliance

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – May 19, 2016 – The heart transplant and ventricular assist device program at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center has been awarded the Vanguard Center Award by the Interagency Registry for Mechanically Assisted Circulatory Support.

The award recognizes the program’s timely compliance and accurate submission to the transplant registry for patients with a mechanical circulatory assist device.

Wake Forest Baptist Urologist Named to Association Position

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – May 19, 2016 – Gopal Badlani, M.D., professor of urology at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, has been named secretary and treasurer of the American Association of Genitourinary Surgeons (AAGUS).

AAGUS is an international association of academic urologists dedicated to the study of diseases of the genitourinary system (the urinary tract and genital organs). Active membership is restricted to 75 surgeons from the United States and Canada who have distinguished themselves in urology.

Wake Forest Baptist Transplant Administrator Honored

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – May 19, 2016 – Betty Crandall, M.S.N, administrative director of transplant services at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, has been awarded the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) – Deedle Heckenkemper Leader in Transplant Administration Award. 

Crandall received the award for her contributions and positive impact on organ transplant administration. 

UNOS manages the nation’s organ transplant system under contract with the federal government.
