Wake Forest Baptist Ranked among Nation’s ‘Best Hospitals’ 25 Years in a Row by U.S. News & World Report

 #2 in North Carolina

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Aug. 8, 2017 – Once again,Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center has been named among the best in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.

Wake Forest Baptist garners top-50 national rankings in six specialties, according to the 2017-18 report, released today. They are Cancer (No. 27), Nephrology (No. 27), Geriatrics (No. 33), Gynecology (No. 33), Ear, Nose & Throat (No. 34) and Neurology & Neurosurgery (No. 37).

Cancer and Nephrology have been nationally ranked by U.S. News for 10 consecutive years. Ear, Nose & Throat has been listed five years in a row while Neurology & Neurosurgery has made three straight appearances. Geriatrics and Gynecology was ranked most recently in 2013.

Four other Wake Forest Baptist specialties – Diabetes & Endocrinology, Orthopedics, Pulmonology and Urology – were listed as “High Performing” by U.S. News.

Overall, Wake Forest Baptist ranked No. 2 in the state, according to U.S. News.

In addition, Wake Forest Baptist leads the national rankings in North Carolina in two specialties: Geriatrics and Neurology and Neurosurgery.

The U.S. News “Best Hospitals” rankings are based on data-driven analysis in 12 specialties and on hospital reputation as determined by physician surveys in four areas. In the 2016-17 rankings, only 153 of the 4,667 U.S. hospitals evaluated, or 3.2 percent, were listed in at least one specialty.

In a separate U.S. News ranking of hospital performance in nine relatively common inpatient procedures and conditions, Wake Forest Baptist received the highest rating available in abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, aortic valve surgery, heart bypass surgery, heart failure, colon cancer surgery, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and lung cancer surgery.
