Shen is one of the few surgeons in the country who is using heated chemotherapy to treat advanced abdominal cancers. He is also performing minimally-invasive robotic surgery to remove pancreatic and liver tumors. He has also opened a clinical trial evaluating a novel pancreatic vaccine for patients who have undergone surgery to remove their pancreatic cancer. For patients with locally advanced liver cancer, he has opened a clinical trial combining chemotherapy administered through a catheter into the liver arteries combined with an oral agent shown to improve survival in patients with metastatic liver cancer.
