Professional Development Council
The Professional Development Council defines, implements and maintains educational standards that promote professional growth and ongoing clinical competency.
Professional Development Council activities include:
- Facilitating an annual educational needs assessment to determine the educational priorities in conjunction with Staff Development
- Promoting and facilitating the certification/recertification process
- Defining preceptor roles and responsibilities
- Promoting nurse participation in nursing professional organizations
- Participating in nursing recruitment, recognition and retention programs
- Reviewing and defining the development of competency-based orientation programs and specialty classes as developed by Staff Development
- Coordinating the Staff Nurse Career Advancement Program
- Facilitating activities related to Nurses’ Week
- Coordinating the process for annual generic and unit-specific competencies
- Promoting the nurse’s professionalism through the support and emphasis of professional practice
