Michael Batalia, Ph.D., joined the Office of Technology Asset Management (OTAM) at Wake Forest School of Medicine in 2003, and has served as the Director of the office since 2004.  Dr. Batalia and his staff are responsible for technology transfer operations across all of Wake Forest University’s campuses.  Prior to his engagement with Wake Forest, Dr. Batalia spent four years at North Carolina State University (NCSU), where he served as the interim Associate Vice Chancellor and Director of the Office of Technology Transfer at NCSU and prior to that as Associate Director, managing inventions and technology from the life sciences and physical sciences.

Dr. Batalia serves on the board of the North Carolina Biotechnology Center and is the Chairman of the board of the Center of Innovation for Nanobiotechnology (COIN). In addition, he is also on the board of several university startups and has worked with numerous new ventures to license intellectual property into the commercial sector. Dr. Batalia is also active in the Association of University Technology Managers, and he has served on AUTM’s board twice. Prior to joining NCSU, Dr. Batalia was a postdoctoral fellow at the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where his research focused on molecular immunology and structural biology. Dr. Batalia has a B.A. in Chemistry from the University of Chicago and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Texas at Austin.
