you never asked me to be that, what I was, no,
never with words,
you never forced, to wrap my naked soul in yours,
the lithe and coolest parts of me,
in heat of summer, cool of home,
no, that was born in your sweet arms,
by choice, by birth, by chance
by choice.
in weft of you, and warp of me.
your forehead on mine. silently.
no, that was found and once found, bloomed
hands of flower, petals, days,
but falling now, even-plucked. strewn.
the ground knows that.
we both know that.
and in the deep dirt of your eyes,
and in the scrunch of your brave mind, imperfect heart,
expressed to me, what wonder lay in your embrace?
that Earth of love might bury
deepest, seeds of our bitter confliction, grow in place a garden, hope.
turn up the choking deadness, oh,
what eyes are mine, to look through yours?
as if a look could ever touch you like the ebb of your touch since has touched my each and every time I turn the corner, even
now.
in self and balance of the world, it's there, there that you now reside in me.
and so, what arms are ours, to shape, this broken world
for our small good?
and where in you, did I find means for heart and love?
to blunt a sharp mistrust, and free
a kind of giving, moving, shapelessness
and let, a kind of sweet and cool-clear water, trickle,
flow.
