Wound Healing and Scar Management

Wound healing and scar management form the basis for much of what is done in hand therapy. Patients are seen early in the wound healing phase for instruction in dressing changes to enhance wound healing and minimize scarring. As a patient's wound achieves closure, the patient is instructed in various massage techniques to prevent scar tissue from sticking to uninvolved structures. Different modalities including ultrasound may be utilized to help control scarring.
