Question: What brought you to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center?

Answer: After pediatric residency, I was a Pediatrics faculty member from 1995-2001. When a position opened at Pediatrics-Westgate, I joined the world of primary care pediatrics.

Q: What are your clinical specialties?

A: I am a strong advocate of breastfeeding medicine and am a member of the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine. I also have an interest in child abuse issues, as I worked in that specialty when I was a faculty member.

Q: Why did you decide to become a primary care doctor?

A: I thoroughly enjoy working with children and their families in the primary care setting. It is very satisfying watching newborns become healthy adolescents. I enjoy knowing the family in which a child grows up and how that family impacts the child’s health.

Q: What is your patient care philosophy?

A: All children deserve a medical home staffed by caring, thoughtful physicians. All children are members of a family and community, and these factors need to be addressed when it comes to giving medical care to children.

Q: What do you enjoy most about working with patients?

A: The majority of children are healthy in spite of the usual childhood illnesses that come their way. I truly enjoy the unique outlook and view of the world that children offer. Ask them a question and I always learn something new!

Q: What type of volunteer and/or community activities are you involved in?

A: I speak twice a year at the NC Lactation Educators Course on Vitamin D and breastfeeding.

Q: What fun facts should we know about you?

A: I enjoy reading, gardening and filling my yard with yard art, backyard bird watching and knitting. I also have a fondness for Springer Spaniels.
