Question: What brought you to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center?

Answer: My husband is from Georgia and I am from Virginia, so I looked for residency programs in the Southeast. This was by far my favorite program. I had a great time during residency and our family really enjoys living in Winston-Salem, so we decided to stay here.

Q: What are your clinical specialties?

A: Family medicine. I enjoy patients of all ages and taking care of their health maintenance, acute health problems and chronic medical conditions.

Q: Why did you decide to become a primary care doctor?

A: I have wanted to be a doctor ever since I was a little girl.

When I was very young, I had thought I would become a nurse. After I got my kindergarten shots, though, I left in tears and told my father that I wasn’t going to be one anymore. Dad asked where the doctor was when I got my shots, and I said that he wasn’t in the room. My father then suggested, “Maybe you should be a doctor.” I asked, “Can girls be doctors?” and was told, “Of course!” At that moment I decided I would become a doctor, and I haven’t looked back!

I decided to specialize in family medicine because I enjoy caring for patients of all ages and developing meaningful relationships with them and their families. I also enjoy managing the broad spectrum of health, acute and chronic medical conditions as well as performing office-based procedures.

Q: What is your patient care philosophy?

A: My goal is to empower my patients by educating them about health maintenance, their medical conditions, and any treatment options they have. As a primary care doctor, I also act as an advocate and navigator for my patients within a sometimes complex healthcare system.

Q: What do you enjoy most about working with patients?

A: I really like getting to know my patients and their families over time and working as a team to keep them as healthy as possible.

Q: What type of volunteer and/or community activities are you involved in?

A: My husband, son and I participate in various community activities through our church.

Q: What fun facts should we know about you?

A: When I am not at work, I enjoy spending time with my husband, our son and Yorkie puppy, and friends and family. We especially like watching college football, spending time outside and playing board games.
