About the Department

The department faculty is composed of 20 tenure and research track faculty, 25 additional faculty with major appointments in other departments, and 27 adjunct faculty active in our research and training efforts. There are five major areas of research emphasis which include Hypertension-Cardiovascular Sciences, Perinatal Biology, the Neurobiological Basis of Substance Abuse, Neuroscience and Brain Aging. The breadth of faculty expertise includes neuropharmacology, endocrinology, neurophysiology, neuropsychopharmacology, molecular pharmacology, behavioral pharmacology, perinatal physiology, cardiovascular and vascular physiology, renal pharmacology, and toxicology. 

Research in departmental laboratories is currently funded by both the private and public sectors.  The department administratively houses three center grants from the National Institute on Drug Abuse, the National Institute on Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse, and the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine.  In addition, training experiences in the Department are supported by two different training grants.  Our faculty includes two NIH M.E.R.I.T recipients and two NIH Senior Scientist awardees.
