Research Area
Neurobiological consequences of chronic drug abuse, and subsequent abstinence, using rodent and non-human primate self-administration models and the biological effects of novel potential therapeutics for cocaine and methamphetamine addiction.
Academic Activities

Track 5 Integrative Physiology and Pharmacology Curriculum Committee
Course Director Grad 703-704: Departmental Student Seminar Series
Brief Summary of Research
- Characterizing the substrates of the neurobiology underlying cocaine and methamphetamine addiction
- Understanding the molecular response of the brain to abstinence and re-exposure to cocaine and methamphetamine following extensive exposure
- Examining the extent of cardiovascular damage induced by methamphetamine self-administration, and whether recovery occurs with abstinence
- Evaluating whether novel potential addiction treatments and hypertensive drugs interact with psychostimulant self-administration and whether they also reduce/ reverse any maladaptive consequences of drug exposure
