Traditional Therapies
Topical and Other Therapies
Wound care must include the time honored and clinically proven techniques such as dressing changes with saline (saltwater) or Dakin’s solution (bleach-like) two to three times daily to clean-up the wounds. Additionally, topically applied agents with active enzymatic components can both keep the wound bed clean and help debride the devitalized (dead) tissue. Pulsivac (a hand held shower technique) can be used to help keep wounds clean and prepare them for surgery. Finally, when topical and local management fail, surgical debridement is sometimes necessary to get the wound bed clean and to facilitate healing.
Reconstructive and Microvascular Surgeries
The reconstructive treatments provided by The Center encompass the entire spectrum of wound coverage. The treatments performed by our reconstructive surgeons include skin grafts, myocutaneous flaps and microvascular reconstructive techniques. Using microvascular anastamoses, our surgeons can transfer healthy, viable tissue to almost any area in the body.
