Karen Beard Byrd, RN, MSN, GNP-C

Nurse Practitioner 

Karen Beard Byrd is the nurse practitioner for the Kate Mills Snider Geriatric Psychiatry Outreach Program (GO Program). Karen graduated from the Gerontological Nurse Practitioner (GNP) program at UNC/Greensboro in 1996 with an MSN. She originally attended nursing school at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and obtained her BSN from the University of Massachusetts at Boston in 1990. She has worked as a nurse in a wide variety of settings and was honored as one of the Great 100 RNs in North Carolina in 2007. Her position as the NP with the GO Program includes visiting older patients in their homes for assessment and treatment of their mental health issues, providing support and education to the families and collaborating with other healthcare providers.
