Sleep Related Illnesses

The Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center’s Sleep clinic, an outpatient clinic of North Carolina Baptist Hospital, is a diagnostic and therapeutic clinic for all sleep related illnesses.  The Clinic offers evaluation and management of sleep disorders through our American Academy of Sleep Medicine-accredited Sleep Center.

Types of sleep related illnesses treated:

  • Obstructive sleep apnea
  • Obesity hypoventilation syndrome
  • Periodic limb movements
  • Restless leg syndrome
  • Narcolepsy
  • Insomnia

Diagnostic techniques include:

John Conforti, MD is board certified in Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine. He has received extensive training as an interventional pulmonologist under Kevin Kovitz, M.D. who trained in Marseilles, France under internationally renowned  Jean-François Dumon, M.D., a pioneer in interventional bronchoscopy.  This training includes rigid bronchoscopy, laser therapy, adenomatous polyposis coli (APC) gene, electrocautery, metallic and silastic stent placement and balloon bronchoplasty. He is also trained in cardiopulmonary exercise testing in both athletes and disease states.

Arjun “Raja” Chatterjee, MD, MS is board certified in Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine. For the Sleep Disorders Center, he interprets sleep studies and evaluates patients with sleep disorders. His clinical interest is in obstructive sleep apnea, obesity hypoventilation syndrome, and general sleep medicine. His research interests include the influence of occupation and occupational exposures on sleep, the influence of critical illness on sleep, and the effects of obesity on sleep. His teaching interests include screening for sleep disordered breathing and basic sleep disorder management for primary care physicians.
