Carolyn Austin, LRT/CTRS
Recreation Therapist - Sub-Acute Care/Gerontology
A native of Summerfield, North Carolina, Carolyn originally became interested in the field after attending a job fair at East Carolina University. She graduated from ECU with a B.S. in Health and Human Performance with a Leisure Studies Option. In 2001 she also graduated from UNC Chapel Hill with a Master’s in Healthcare Administration.
Carolyn has ten years of experience in the field of Recreation Therapy. She currently works on the Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) unit as well as in the aquatics program. Her past experiences in the medical center include the transitional care unit, acute rehabilitation, adult psychiatry and child/adolescent psychiatry. For the past two years she has presented “Aerobics of the Mind” for Best Health and various other community organizations.
Carolyn is licensed at the state level (LRT) and certified at the national level (CTRS) and is a member of the North Carolina Recreation Therapy Association (NCRTA). Currently she is the chair of the NCRTA Marketing Committee.
Carolyn's hobbies include gardening, scrape booking, and spending precious time with her three children.
