Gamma Knife Stereotactic Radiosurgery
Leading-Edge Care at Wake Forest Gamma Knife Center
Gamma Knife is the gold standard of radiosurgery for:
- Brain cancer
- Metastatic brain tumors
- Benign brain tumors
- Brain abnormalities, such as arteriovenous malformation (AVM)
And Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center has quickly become one of the leading Gamma Knife centers in the U.S., with one of the most experienced treatment teams.
We’ve been performing Gamma Knife radiosurgery since 1999, under the leadership of Drs. Michael Chan and Stephen Tatter. Today, Wake Forest Gamma Knife Center is among the most active centers in the U.S., treating more than 350 patients per year.
We are one of only a few medical centers funded by the National Cancer Institute to conduct brain cancer research using the world’s most innovative therapies. Our current Leksell Gamma Knife® Perfexion™ machine is the most accurate and advanced stereotactic radiosurgery technology available.
Helping Care for Your Patients
We want to partner with you to determine the best treatment options for your patients. When you refer patients to us, we’ll either meet with them in person or view their images at our weekly multidisciplinary tumor board. Then, we’ll contact you with the recommendations of our experts.
If your patient is a candidate for Gamma Knife, we’ll keep you informed every step of the way, from consultation to treatment to follow-up. Out-of-town patients can be scheduled for an in-person consultation and treatment in one trip. Your patients may choose to return to you for follow-up care.
While the Wake Forest Gamma Knife Center has renowned faculty and state-of-the-art technology, most important to us is providing excellent patient care. We invite your patients to visit our Patients & Visitors Gamma Knife website for more information.
