Diagnostic Imaging Services

Specialty ServicesWake Forest Baptist Medical Center offers a full compliment of screening, diagnostic and interventional radiological technologies. Among the services available are:

  • Advanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) techniques including:
    • MR Spectroscopy for measuring biochemical behavior of tumors and metabolic disease
    • Functional MR to detect and map brain activity
    • Diffusion/perfusion MR to measure blood flow and cellular function
  • Computed Tomography using 64-slice technology, suitable for advanced cardiovascular and neurologic applications such as:
    • Coronary artery CT angiography and calcium scoring
    • Carotid CT angiography
  • Cerebral and Peripheral Angiography, including stenting of blocked carotid, renal and lower extremity blood vessels
  • A wide range of percutaneous therapeutic techniques, including:
    • Radiofrequency ablation of tumors under CT guidance
    • Fine-needle biopsies
    • Vertebroplasty for spinal fractures
    • Varicose vein ablation
    • Embolization of uterine fibroid tumors
    • Stenting of carotid, renal and other arteries
    • Coiling of cerebral aneurysms
    • Treatment of stroke
  • Positron Emission Tomography (PET) with CT utilizing conventional FDG-18 as well as a range of other isotopes
