Micro-Ultrasound and Photoacoustic Imaging Suite
Photoacoustics imaging technology integrates the sensitivity of light-based imaging with the resolution of high-frequency sound waves to provide never-before-seen insights into living tissue cellular environment and flow of blood.
It produces the non-invasive functional, anatomic and visual information needed to assess potential treatments for the major diseases that affect people around the world. The Micro-Ultrasound and Photoacoustic Imaging Suite is located on the 6th floor of the Hanes Building.
Photoacoustics Features:
- Inherent co-registration of photoacoustic signal to 2-D/3-D anatomical target

The Vevo LAZR Photoacoustic Imaging System includes many comoponents. One is the LAZRTight™ Imaging Enclosure, an exclusive animal handling system that encapsulates the imaging station and
provides maximal system performance for image and data generation while ensuring the safety of the operator. Some of its features are:
- Containment of laser light
- Eliminates requirement of a separate laser-operation room
- Encases the animal imaging system
- Transducer mounting system
- 3-D positioning system environment
The Vevo® Imaging System (Integrated Rail System) is an adjustable rail system
custom-designed for small animal handling, positioning and image optimization. It is:
- Designed to be used with and fit within the LAZRTight™ Enclosure
- Features transducer mounting system for quick set-up, alignment and adjustment of ultrasound probe
- Easy integration with Anesthesia System
- Adjustable to fit Micro-injection System for image-guided injections & extractions
- Temperature-controlled animal platform
The Vevo Compact Anesthesia System for small animal anesthesia uses isoflurane-based anesthesia, which easily
integrates into the mouse or rat handling platforms. The user can choose between oxygen, medical air or dual connection set-up.
- Self-contained isoflurane-based anesthesia unit for use on lab tables, with a compact 8" x 11" footprint
- Self-contained isoflurane-based anesthesia unit for use in lab settings on a rolling cart
