WHAT IS CERTL 6-8 SUMMER ENRICHMENT ACADEMY? CERTL 6-8- Summer Enrichment Academy is a hand-on, interactive look at science and math geared towards middle school students from the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school system and community. The Academy emphasizes problem-solving skills by using real-life situations.
Students will attend daily Problem-Based Learning (PBL) activities to enhance their interest and abilities in science and mathematics. Students will work in teams and use resource materials and the PBL method to discover potential solutions the problems presented in these case.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE?
Enrollment is offered to 60 6-8th students from the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school system. Females and minorities including African-American, Hispanic (Mexican-American, Puerto Rican, Central or South American), Native American, Asian-American, and other underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.
WHEN WILL THE 2010 ACADEMY TAKE PLACE?
The Camp will run from June 21st to July 2nd . The camp will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each weekday. Students will be provided lunch and snacks daily and there is no cost for attending the program.
WHERE WILL THE ACADEMY TAKE PLACE?
CERTL Summer Academy is held at Brunson Elementary School, located at 155 N. Hawthorne Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27104.
HOW ARE STUDENTS SELECTED FOR THE ACADEMY?
Students will be selected for participation in the camp based on the potential of the student to benefit from the program, the stated level of motivation in science and mathematics, and by letter of recommendation from his or her teacher.
