.Position Available: Postdoctoral Fellow in Human Genetics

Wake Forest School of Medicine

Duties and responsibilities:

The Center for Diabetes Research at Wake Forest School of Medicine has multiple extramurally supported studies of the genetics of type 2 diabetes, diabetic nephropathy, obesity and cardiovascular disease risk factors in diverse populations. Projects include genome wide association, linkage, exome sequencing, whole genome sequencing,  and exome chip studies. The successful candidate will participate in analytical and/or laboratory components of these research projects and follow up results using a range of bioinformatics and potentially functional analysis under the supervision of faculty members. His/her major duties will include genotyping and DNA sequencing using a range of platforms and genetic data analysis using existing genetic software, statistical data analysis including modeling using SAS, R and/or other programming tools. A primary role will be contributing to the design, implementation and subsequent manuscript preparation of research projects.

Position qualifications:

PhD degree in biological sciences, genetics, statistical genetics, epidemiology, bioinformatics, biostatistics or related fields. Laboratory experiences in molecular genetics and/or skill and experience in genetic and bioinformatics data analysis, statistical packages such as SAS, R, programming skill and use of UNIX are desirable.
