Research

Research is a vibrant part of the Center. Our research expands knowledge and builds evidence for individuals, clinicians and policy makers to make wise decisions about health. 

Several pilot projects are currently underway, and recruiting participants for studies.  Refer to our webpage Research Projects for study participant recruitment information.  Pilot research includes the impact of:

  • Acupuncture in menopause.  NOTE:  Currently recruiting participants
  • Yoga on brain cancer patients
  • Vitamin D on home-bound elders
  • Magnetic Fields on vascular endothelial cells
  • Healing Touch on heart rate variability and stress
  • Vitamin D and K and physical function in heart failure
  • North American Ginseng on influenza vaccine responses
  • Guided Imagery on patients undergoing joint replacement
  • Guided Imagery on psychiatry, oncology, and burn unit patients
  • Healing Touch on patients with neurological or stress-related disorders
  • Yoga on alleviating treatment-related symptoms of patients undergoing chemotherapy
  • HeartMath’s Transforming Stress Workshop on employee stress, burnout, absenteeism and turnover
  • Touch and Attention MRI Study.   
  • Supportive Intervention Program Study (SIPS). NOTE:  Currently recruiting participants. 

Our Center has 9 WFBH representatives on the Consortium of Academic Health Center’s for Integrative Medicine, and we formed three multi-discipliniary research working groups including:

  1. Community-Based Health Promotion
  2. Herbs and Dietary Supplements
  3. Stress Reduction and Mind-Body Therapies
