Cardiovascular Genomics Working Group
The Cardiovascular
Genomics Working Group is a new initiative of the Center for Public Health
Genomics and the Hypertension and Vascular Research Center led by Drs. Lisa Washburn and Liliya Yamaleyeva.
Mission
To enhance
cardiovascular research through the integration of genomics.
Goals
1.
To foster new collaborations between research groups in the
areas of cardiovascular disease and genomics, including:
- Generation of new proposals and grants submissions
- Analysis of existing data or samples
- Incorporation of a specific aim(s) related to genomics to
ongoing projects
2.
To provide a forum for presenting and refining ideas on
cardiovascular genomics.
3.
To facilitate interactions with local leaders in the field of
cardiovascular genomics.
4.
To review and discuss the current literature in the field of
cardiovascular genomics.
Objectives
- To become familiar
with the resources and technologies available at WFSM to study genomics
(potential applications, sample collection and processing; sample size
calculation and statistical analysis; working with human and animal models;
preparing the budget - costs)
- To provide an example
of successful application of genomics to clinical research.
