Nephrology
The Section on Nephrology at the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center is ranked among the top 50 Kidney Disease programs by US News and World Report. Our faculty provide highly specialized care for patients with chronic kidney disease, and those who have received kidney and pancreas transplants. Section members are highly regarded for multidisciplinary research programs involving genetic factors in common kidney diseases, acid-base, fluid, and electrolyte balance, outcomes in hemodialysis, continuous renal replacement therapy, peritoneal dialysis, and kidney transplantation. Relevant clinical issues serve as our prime motivation for research projects and this dedication to applied research has made the Section a leader in NIH-sponsored basic and clinical trials in kidney disease. Our research programs are performed in collaboration with Wake Forest faculty in Public Health Sciences, the Center for Genomics and Personalized Medicine, the Center for Diabetes Research, the Wake Forest Institute of Regenerative Medicine, as well as multiple other Sections in the Department of Internal Medicine.
