Public Engagement

I feel a personal responsibility to engage the public and communicate the importance of what we do as scientists. I do this in several ways:

• BrainyActs!! is a website with video clips for educators. Users can upload and share their own neuroscience-related videos and lessons, and rate the videos. 
• A series of comics originally published in the design magazine Ambidextrous, now published as a regular feature in Scientific American: Mind. This series is by Dr. Dwayne Godwin and Jorge Cham (author of "PhD Comics"). Topics in the past have included: Time and the Brain, Food for Thought, Secret Thoughts, Brain Development, and Love!
• Our comic on Brain Development recently won the NSF/Science Magazine International Science and Engineering Visualization Challenge.
• I'm a faculty advisor for our outstanding group of young scholars engaged in Brain Awareness activities.
