Williams Publishes Single-Author Textbook on Biomaterials
David Williams, D.Sc., FREng, professor and director of International Affairs, is the author of the recently published Essential Biomaterials Science, the only single-author textbook on biomaterials science. The book explores relevant concepts in biology and materials science and provides comprehensive coverage of all existing clinical and experimental biomaterials and the fundamental principles of biocompatibility. The book draws on Williams’ 45 years of experience in biomaterials, including serving as editor-in-chief of the Biomaterials journal for 15 years.
In editorial reviews, scientists from around the word praised Williams for his outstanding synthesis of the field of biomaterials. “It is a remarkable achievement for any one individual, even if that individual is David Williams, to construct such an accomplished and authoritative test,” wrote Keith McLean, Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization.
The book was published by Cambridge University Press.
Williams is currently Global President of the Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society. He has written or edited 40 books and produced over 400 scientific papers. He received the prestigious Founders Award of the US Society for Biomaterials in 2007 and the Acta Biomaterialia Gold Medal in 2012. He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering of the UK, a Foreign Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering and a Master of the DeTao Masters Academy of China.
